Last December, Chancellor George Osborne used the 2015 Spending Review to announce that at least £250 million will be spent on an ambitious programme of nuclear research and development over the next five years.

Since Mr Osborne’s announcement, the Nuclear Innovation and Research Advisory Board (NIRAB) has submitted recommendations to Ministers identifying the areas in which publicly funded civil nuclear R&D is required to inform and underpin Government policy.NIRAB has been established by Government to provide independent, expert advice on the research and innovation needed for nuclear energy to play a significant role in the UK’s future low carbon and secure energy mix and to create the environment in which the UK nuclear industry can contribute significantly to our economy.NIRAB has confirmed that aNuclear R&D Stakeholder Event will share those recommendations and describe how it is anticipated that these might be prioritised when research is commissioned in the coming months. The event is also an ideal networking opportunity to begin identifying potential partners. The event takes place between 10am and 3pm on Monday 16th May at 66 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AD (RIBA Venues). For further information or to register to attend in person please go to https://nuclear-stakeholder-event.eventbrite.co.ukFor those unable to attend in London, the event will also be webcast and you can register for this at http://nuclear-stakeholder-webcast.eventbrite.co.uk
