At the same time as the initial funding commitment was announced, the Government also announced that UK participation in the JHR programme would be led by the UK's National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL).
NNL currently leads the UK involvement in the existing international fuel and materials experimental programme at the Halden test reactor in Norway and NNL, the Government's Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and CEA believe that a similar approach should be adopted regarding the UK's interactions with JHR.
Following a signing ceremony in March 2013, NNL became the UK Member of the JHR Consortium, with responsibilities as follows:
- Attendance and UK representation at meetings of the JHR Governing Board
- Management of the UK share of Access Rights
