NNL provides a customer focused, professional safety management service (including criticality, radiological and chemotoxic) to the nuclear industry.

Our Safety Management team's accumulated experience in each of these fields enables us to provide a service of fundamental importance for our customers. Ask anyone in the nuclear industry what their number one priority is and they will answer "safety".

Our Service

NNL's Safety Management service is delivered by a team consisting of safety professionals with an impressive range of skills and capabilities. Applied to the design, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities, these skills provide customers with a vital service. The team also has experience of liaising with regulatory authorities such as the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).

Our services include:

  • Advice to designers on new plant and existing plant modifications
  • Optioneering and fault identification at all process stages, including chair/ secretary of HAZOP 0, 1 and 2, desktop studies and plant walkdowns
  • Preparation of safety cases for new and existing plant, including Probabilistic Safety Analysis and Design Basis Accident Analysis. This service also includes the preparation of combined radiological and chemotoxic hazard analyses
  • Preparation of various reports including:
    - Internal and external hazards
    - Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations
    - Hazardous Area Classification
  • Preparation of safety cases for fuel transport
  • As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) analysis
  • Engineering substantiation reconciliation
  • Peer Review and Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) services
  • Provision of operational support and ad-hoc advice to plant operators and management
  • Support to decommissioning operations
  • Training of operators and management in criticality safety
  • Use of computer calculational techniques such as MONK, Logan and ADMS
  • Performing plant inspections
  • Emergency planning services
  • Advice on compliance with regulatory requirements
