Decommissioning Support

NNL has more than 20 years' experience providing a professional remote engineering service. We help customers with the design, development and deployment of purpose built, remotely operable, inspection and intervention devices for use within nuclear production and power plants. We also provide support for decontamination and dismantling applications.

Our dedicated team of experts are based at NNL's Workington Laboratory. They provide these and a range of additional services in engineering support.

Decommissioning Support Services

NNL helps customers with the design and development of engineered tooling and deployment systems, used for a range of POCO and decommissioning applications for caves, ponds and silos.

Key Service Areas

  • Design and development of remotely deployable size reduction tooling for in-cave and underwater applications
  • In-cave size reduction tooling such as grinders, shears, plasma, breakers, reciprocating saws, diamond core stitch drilling
  • Underwater size reduction tooling such as abrasive jetting, diamond wire, shears and abrasive disk
  • Design, development and deployment of remote sampling systems for the characterisation of pond sludges
  • Retrieval of steel coupons for characterisation of underwater pond furniture such as skips and containers
  • Design and development of retrievals systems for the suspension and transportation of pond sludges
  • Design and development of remotely deployable camera systems
