Laboratory Fellows

Colette brings professional experience as a nuclear regulator to her role as Laboratory Fellow in Nuclear Regulation. She received personal endorsement in the role from UK nuclear regulators in the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the Environment Agency (EA). Until the end of 2011, she was the lead inspector for the AP1000 reactor in the Joint Regulators Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process, working in the Environment Agency Nuclear New Build Team. Colette worked as part of the Joint Regulators GDA team from the beginning of the GDA process in July 2007, to the issue of interim statements of design acceptability at the end of 2011 when she joined NNL. Colette led international regulatory inspections, authored regulatory technical reports and has spoken in public arenas about her work as a Regulator. She also has worked with international regulators from USNRC, CNSC, ASN, STUK and with SSM, Sweden. In NNL she led the Safety(Licensing), Security and Safeguards Team, leading reviews of the Westinghouse SMR for Government, the PRISM reactor for NDA and on nuclear reactors for space propulsion working with various international space agencies. She manages the NNL external Senior Visiting Fellow, SVF appointments and acts as nominated point of contact for Alan McGoff and Kevin Allars.

Colette is a Chartered Chemist and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She is a mentor for the Royal Society of Chemistry NNL accreditation scheme. In her role as Laboratory Fellow, she was responsible for the creation of the NNL Mentoring Community of Practice. and she currently acts as a mentor for four NNL staff.
